Historic Bill gives 2 Million PAID Parental Leave:12weeks. MSM: Crickets. PLUS:Protection for ex-Convicts. Are most progressives aware?

In A Historic Bill, Federal Workers Will Receive 12 Weeks Of Paid Parental Leave[1]

The Senate  passed a bill on Tuesday, tucked into the [NDAA] budget..providing all federal workers with 12 weeks of paid parental leave for the first time in American history. This monumental policy will commence in October 2020. Federal employees will need to work for the U.S. government for at least a year to become eligible for the benefits [and after receiving their 12 weeks of paid leave, must return to work for at least 12 weeks]..The U.S. is unique in that it's the sole industrialized nation that has refused to adopt a policy of parental leave for its federal employees up to this point. The U.S. currently has the Family Medical Leave Act, which requires employers with 50 and more employees to give parents 12 weeks of leave to care for a new child. The corporations are not mandated to offer any guaranteed pay for their employees who take time off from work..Over [so that means *more* than..] 2 million Americans are believed to benefit from this new policy. By comparison, only 19% of U.S. non-government workers have access to paid family leave through their employers. [the nasty journalist then criticizes it as probably/maybe therefore too generous. This reminds me of ugly 1990s attacks on even  health insurance government workers had, being "too generous" because well, private health insurance isn't usually as good -H]...It is expected for Trump to sign the bill, as his daughter, Ivanka Trump, was a prominent proponent of the bill. Democrats, including Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Representative Carolyn Maloney (D-N.Y.)..[were supporters of the bill]

CNN in a rare care of not being utterly slanted:

"the 25-year-old [Clinton era] Family Medical Leave Act simply required employers with 50 or more workers [leaving out employees in smaller companies] to grant parents 12 weeks of leave annually to care for a new child -- but did not [mandate any] pay during that time... Ivanka Trump has made ensuring paid leave for families, and access to quality child care, a significant part of her portfolio for the last two years. She met with more than 60 lawmakers on both sides of the aisle to push federal paid leave, something other industrialized nations have offered for decades. 'As the country's largest employer, the United States government must lead by example.'...And her father, the President [Trump], called for a national paid family leave program during the presidential campaign and his proposed budget is the first to include a national paid family leave program. He is expected to sign the legislation.

Obama: "An estimated one out of every four American moms returns to work within two weeks of giving birth because they cannot afford to miss a paycheck or risk losing their job.  We want every mother to have the chance to spend those precious few weeks with her newborn or adopted child.  And I understand, statistically  —  they show, statistically, it's so much better for the baby in growing up, even in later years.  I can imagine that." (actually not Obama but current WH resident)

And

My administration is also focused on expanding access to high-quality, affordable child care.  Last year, I was proud to sign into law the largest-ever increase in Child Care Development Block Grants to states.  The states understand that very well.  A lot of governors  —  (applause)  —  a lot of governors come up to me and they thank me for that.

In more than 60 percent of American homes, both parents work.  Yet many struggle to afford child care, which often costs more than $10,000 per year.  And it's devastating to families, frankly.  Devastating. Here with us today is Tseyon Mamo, who has benefited from child care assistance and is now earning her degree in early childhood education while raising her two young, beautiful children.  Tseyon, would you come up, please, and say a few words? MS. MAMO:  Thank you, Mr. President.  Last year I started working at the Guadalupe Center in Kansas City as an assistant teacher.  At the same time, I began taking classes to earn a credential in early childhood education[..]Now, both of my daughters are going to preschool in the same building where I work.  It's very convenient for my family and I.  I'm so close that I was able to check on my daughters during the day she got sick.  So thank you, President [Trump]..

We did criminal justice reform and we called it by a slightly different name.  A lot of people don't know that it's criminal justice reform.  I said, "Change the name."  But somebody put it with the name.  It's the FIRST STEP Act, which is good, but it's criminal justice reform.  And in this case, we're going to just go with a very perfect name: Paid Family Leave legislation.  Jackie, is that good?  Yes?  I think, Jackie, we'll do it for you, okay?  (Applause.)

..This week, my administration reached a historic deal with Congress: The federal government will now give 12 weeks of paid family leave to all federal employees.  Something that nobody expected.  (Applause.) And as a candidate for President, I pledged to advance paid family leave.  With this important step, we are delivering[..]

Trump Approves Paid Parental Leave for Federal Workers

Federal employees will soon be eligible for paid parental leave under a measure President Donald Trump signed Dec. 20...The leave provision is part of a defense spending bill that also contained the Fair Chance Act — a so called ban-the-box law that would prohibit federal agencies and federal contractors from asking job applicants about criminal convictions until after a conditional job offer has been made. This is the first major criminal justice bill passed since the First Step Act was signed into law last year. [Except there's also been Executive Action in Second Chance Hiring, bullet points here: http://www.lesserevil2020.com/trump-positive-actions/second-chance.html

[6] https://www.shrm.org/resourcesandtools/legal-and-compliance/employment-law/pages/trump-approves-paid-parental-leave-for-federal-workers.aspx [which quotes a Democrat wanting to build further on this which is great but (1) DNC is too busy on McCarthyist lies and warmongering McCarthyist hysteria, on Impeachement Circus and (2) they forget to add that Trump (President and Ivanka) too want to expand beyond this bill.

[Which also reported private sector good news so yes the "real economy" isn't as rosy as wall street but false to pretend it's all bad news; consider: "The number of employers offering family leave above the time required by the federal FMLA increased by 6 percentage points, according to SHRM's 2019 Employee Benefits survey. Additionally, while paid leave for new fathers has gone up only slightly since 2018, it has seen steadily rising over the past five years (up 14 percentage points) and is now within 4 percentage points of paid leave for new mothers"]

So we know that every American parent, like Brittany, wants the best for their child, and every American family strengthens and uplifts our country...With this initiative, we have a chance to give all moms and dads the resources and support they need to succeed, thrive, flourish, prosper, and help their sons and daughters reach their amazing God-given potential.  It's what's happening.  It's what's happening with our country as a whole.  As Americans, we know the single-most important investment we can ever make is in our nation's children.

Yes progressive friends, this is going to get added as an item to http://www.lesserevil2020.com/trump-positive-actions/ [we already know the bad domestic by Trump, this is the other part: no one covers the good which DNC is slow-walking [Infrastructure for ex which Trump has repeatedly called for, but Dems prefer scamming us with Impeachment lies, which Jamarl nicely covers on Ukraine, the lies and more) or    blocking, or quietly passing with Trump (very very queitly so fewer of us learn about it) because they prefer McCarthyism, circus, lies, covering for Biden corruption, etc]

Almost missed this item, and I'm sure I've missed many positive domestic items MSM mostly ignored or puts in "back page" type online links harder to find -- since I've unsubscribed (too busy) to WH youtube channel, only found [5] because rare peek first time in months.

Yes Bernie: you could have done this and more[I'm generously assuming R's wouldn't have blocked it just because Dem POTUS while under Trump he gets R's to support First Step Act, and this and more] -- but you CAVED, you didn't fight, you didn't sue DNC, you even went outrageously for the RussiaGate Lies, how can  you be trusted not to be as (or, let's be realistic) possibly more warmongering than Trump? [Trum's killed about 10% of the GWB, BC, and BO-HRC many civilians] That's why election is too painful to watch. But you'll likely be cheated again. If you're not, I'll have tough questions about your caving on RussiaHoax and not fighting DNC and exposing how we were cheated including *millions* or our individual donations to you. But if there's a miracle and you aren't cheated and you win, and you answer those questions, great, that would be good. I'll be focused on positive initiatives like this that deserve bi-partisan backing and deserve better alt-media coverage and public awareness like this and First Step Act -- and on non-electoral change for good, 3D printed housing for homeless and low-income and more (Good News Gazette issues to come. Left-and-Right-unite is still possible at grassroots level on solar/wind/storage related Infrastructure, on anti-war, anti-censor, pro-fairer-trade etc)
